Happy Hour in the 40′s

Written By: Natalie - Sep• 21•08

Serving cocktails was the height of fashion when my parents were young marrieds in the 1940′s.  Here are a couple of drinks recipes that someone of the elder generation might remember. One for the ladies, one for the gents:

Pink Lady Cocktail

Fill bar glass with 3 or 4 pieces of cracked ice and white of 1 egg
1/4 Jigger Apple Jack
1 Jigger Distilled Dry Gin
2 dashes Grenadine
Juice of quarter of a lime
Shake well,
Strain into glass No. 9 or 10

Rob Roy

* 1 1/2 ounces Scotch Whiskey
* 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
* 1 dash orange bitters

Stir with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon twist.
Also known as: Santiago Scotch Plaid Bitters: Orange bitters was an original ingredient for this drink, but with this often being difficult to find Angostura bitters can be used instead.
